Privacy Policy
The short version: Windowlight has no account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking. We do not run a server that receives your photos or your data. Your photos stay on your own devices unless you turn on a backup to a server you run yourself.
What we collect
Nothing. The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code, and it does not send us usage data. We do not know who uses Windowlight.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your photos. Shots from the camera are copied into the app's own folder on your iPhone (visible in the Files app). If you turn on “Add to Photos”, the app also adds them to your photo library. It asks for add-only access and never reads your library.
- Photo scoring. Sharpness, faces and closed eyes are analysed on your iPhone. Pictures are not uploaded for this.
- Settings and keys. Your settings stay on the device. The camera pairing ID and the remote-access key are kept in the iOS Keychain, on this device only.
Permissions
- Local network — to reach your camera, or the Windowlight box next to it, on your own network or cable.
- Camera — so the iPhone's camera and volume buttons can fire your camera's shutter, and to talk to a camera on the USB cable. The iPhone camera is not recorded and nothing from it is saved.
- Photos (add only) — only if you choose to add shots to your photo library.
The app does not ask for your location, contacts or microphone.
Optional features that send data — only to places you choose
- Backup to Immich. If you enter the address and key of your own Immich photo server, the app uploads your photos there. It goes straight to your server; we never see it. Off until you set it up.
- Battery alerts. If you enter a notification address (ntfy), the app sends a short battery message to it. If you use the public ntfy.sh service, that message passes through it. Off until you set it up.
- Remote access. An optional setting that lets a computer on your own Wi-Fi control the app with a key you copy from the app. Off by default.
- Map links. If you tap a photo's location, Apple Maps opens with those coordinates.
Feedback
The in-app feedback button is off by default. When you use it, the report (your title and note, the page and screen size, the app version, the camera's connection and battery status, recent error messages, and a screenshot of the area you picked) is saved on the device that runs Windowlight. The app does not send it to us. If you send feedback through TestFlight or by email, we receive what you send and use it only to fix and improve Windowlight.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent or share personal data. We have none to share.
Children
Windowlight is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date.
