What you need
- An iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
- Nikon D4: an Ethernet cable, plus a USB-C Ethernet adapter for the iPhone, or the Windowlight box next to the camera for Wi-Fi.
- OM System OM-1: a USB-C data cable. Charge-only cables don't work: the camera simply never shows up.
Quick fixes
The camera won't connect
Make sure it is on, awake and has charge. Only one app can talk to the camera at a time, so close any other camera app or computer first. After a disconnect the camera needs about 15 seconds before it accepts a new connection; waiting works better than retrying quickly.
“The camera is in use”
Another phone or browser still holds the camera. Wait three minutes for it to let go, or tap Take over.
Still stuck after a crash
The camera may think the old connection is still open. Turn the camera's network setting off and on (D4), or switch the camera off, unplug the cable, switch it back on and plug it in again (OM-1).
Live view won't start
Common reasons: a low battery, no memory card, a shot still being saved, or the aperture set on the lens ring. Charge or swap the battery, wait a moment after a shot, and set the lens ring to its smallest aperture.
The card looks empty on the Shoot page
The D4 hides its cards while it is being remote-controlled. Open the Viewer from the Shoot page's button and they appear.
Zoomed live view freezes
Windowlight usually fixes this itself within a few seconds. If not, tap Fit, or stop and start live view.
A download stops short
Try again when the camera is idle (not shooting or in live view), and split very large selections.
